From The Amalgam Collection. Introduced in 1952, the `Gullwing' was the fastest production car of its day with a top speed of 161mph (260 km/h). `SL' stood for `Sport Leicht' (Sport Light). It has an impressive race history, winner of the third Carrera Panamericana Race, Mexico 1952, winner at 24 Hours of Le mans and Nürburgring also in 1952. It was the first car to use fuel injection directly into the cylinders. The `Gullwing' was owned by film stars Sophia Loren and Zsa Zsa Gabor. It was ground breaking and iconic in every way, and swiftly became one of the most famous cars in the history of automotive design.
